Ariful Hasnat, Senior Lecturer, CE, UAP honored as a New Face of Civil Engineering

 

The American Society of Civil Engineers arranged the Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Gala held on March 17, 2016 at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel, Arlington, Varginia, USA. The OPAL Awards honor outstanding leaders whose lifetime accomplishments have contributed to civil engineering in one of five categories – construction, design, education, government, or management.

This event brought together various group of professionals working in the field of Civil Engineering. More than 400 Engineering Professionals from different organizations participated in this prestigious award program. ASCE President Mark W. Woodson presented certificates to all new faces honoree for their outstanding contributions and extraordinary personal achievements that represents bold and humanitarian future of Civil Engineering. ASCE appreciated the first honoree Mr. Ariful Hasnat, Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering at the University of Asia Pacific for coming all the way from Bangladesh who is also the first person from Bangladesh to be honored as a New Face of Civil Engineering. “I feel I am representing my country,” Hasnat said in the ASCE press release. “In our country we have many problems with infrastructure. Maybe in some way I can contribute to fixing those.” Professor Dan Frangopol, the first Fazlur R. Khan Endowed Chair of Structural Engineering and Architecture at Lehigh University won the lifetime achievement award for his significant contribution in the education. The Dragon Bridge in Da Nang, Vietnam, was announced as the 2016 honoree among five other finalists.
